Those little metal bits inside the bellhousing are actually melted ball bearings from the throwout bearing and small shredded pieces of its carrier assembly. When the bearing seized it was sheared apart by the force of the shaft which was still turning. In other cases where this has happened the release fork was also damaged. I was lucky not to have that happen.
